If you're a keen rider, then you'll love horse riding in the Algarve! The riding centres are happy to deal with just about anyone, from the beginner to Olympic standard riders! And there's a choice of countryside or seaside scenery, depending on your preference.  Short and long treks are available in the hills above for novice and experienced riders and led treks for children are also available.

Given its immense coastline and various other geographical features, the Algarve is an ideal region to explore on horseback. There are numerous stables and schools perfect for riding or learning to ride at any time of the year, although it’s worth knowing that it can get to hot in the of peak summer – and you’ll find some of the best off-road beach routes in the seaside villages of the Costa Vicentina.

Day rides explore the forest and coast of this beautiful area, riding along ravaged cliff tops, wandering through quiet valleys, or galloping up wooded hills –and you can even have go on a specialist riding holiday at one of the many 'Centro Hípicos' dotted about The Algarve.

Many centres are inland from the coast, but because they're keen to appeal to holidaymakers, the majority offer transportation there and back. Tavira, Lagos, Portimao and Albufeira, all have schools so book a ride, then off you go...
