Climate

The climate in Algarve is one of the best in Europe. With only a short period of
rainfall between November and March and the long hours of sunshine, the weather in Algarve region is perfect for holidaying.

The Algarve climate is influenced by the European continent, North Africa, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. The maximum temperatures vary throughout the year, between 15ºC and 31ºC but the temperature never falls below zero in the winter. You cannot beat the Algarve weather. This part of Portugal enjoys approximately 300 days of sunshine annually, with reasonably steady temperatures (though it is always worth checking the Algarve weather forecast). The area also benefits from beautiful sunsets. Combine that with blue skies, flowers in abundance and temperatures higher than California, it is no wonder that the Algarve is so popular for holidays!

The months of July and August are usually very hot. However, on most days of the year, there is a light breeze from the west. Evenings are usually cooler and you will feel comfortable with  just a light jacket or cardigan. As in the UK, the Algarve weather is best for exploring in the Spring and Autumn months. The climate in Algarve is most pleasant then. The hot months of July and August are best saved for sun-worshippers. If you decide to visit this area in winter you will be pleasantly surprised and find you will probably only need a fleece or light jacket. As for rainfall, December to February are the wettest months, but the good news is that the rain only tends to fall for an hour or so.

When checking the Algarve weather forecast it is worth considering that the temperatures that are quoted are ‘air’ temperatures, and therefore how it will feel in the shade!
